Circle dancing can mean many different things to different people, and I wish to share how I feel about it.  In my experience there is a strong connection between circle dance and nature.

This is particularly true of the Bach Flower Dances, where each dance is connected to the healing properties of the Bach Flower Remedies.

The Bach Flower dances are available in the workshops for everyone to dance and enjoy; however it is not necessary actually to believe in the remedies themselves.  Indeed when I participated in my dance teacher training, I did not personally believe that there are healing properties in the Bach Flower Remedies.
For me the jury is still out, but I do concede from my own experience that there is a feel-good factor from using the remedies.  Over the years when I enjoy circle dance in my life, I have also experienced this ‘feel-good’ factor, particularly when I dance regularly.  Is it possible to get this feeling from a bottled remedy without the dance?  Perhaps - I honestly don’t know.
I believe in the healing properties of nature and circle dance to me is the nearest experience to being amongst nature surrounded by the energies of a natural environment. Circle dance can bring the energies of nature inside, in every respect, into our buildings and into our hearts and souls.

The natural rhythm of the dance encompasses and captures the beauty of nature.   In my opinion, when embraced fully, these dances have the true capacity to touch people at many levels including mind, body and spirit.  The dances are so simple and yet so profound; they can help to instil a depth of understanding within the dancer.  I find that  many circle dances have the capacity to stimulate intuition, and can be used for personal development through opening the doorways of self-knowledge and inner wisdom.  In a similar vein, circle dance can also stimulate social development. Circle dancing dispenses with barriers to participation such as: ability to dance, language, educational level, cultural diversity and age, as there are dances to suit all age groups and abilities.
There exists the possibility that the word dance may create a barrier to participation, and perhaps the word dance does not adequately describe the experience.  A series of movements that happen to flow with the music is achievable by anyone, whether one can ‘dance’ or not.   There is no right or wrong and people generally get into the flow of the movements.  It has been said, “to be creative we need to lose the fear of being wrong” (Joseph Chilton Pearce).
Dancing outdoors is very popular with SourceCircleDance groups, and to dance in nature is truly a wonderful experience.  Circle dancing outside inspires a feeling of being connected to all that is natural.  In today’s world with much emphasis on materialism this is a feeling with which many people may have lost touch.  The wonderful positive energy that exists when the dancers are moving in harmony as one is extraordinary.  Certain congruence is achieved between the dancers and our environment.  Whether dancing inside or outside the dancers experience a connectedness with each other and the universe that is unique.
Some of the photographs on this website are taken in Crough Wood near the Comeragh Mountains in County Waterford, Ireland.  The stream forms the beginnings of the River Mahon whose source is in the Comeragh Mountains.  This is a particularly beautiful area of County Waterford and is a little known secret, which I will share with the viewers of this site.  This place is an inspiration and has the most amazing energy as the River Mahon races to the sea.  SourceCircleDance has been inspired by this very special place.  The local community has had the insight to preserve this little gem of a wood for future generations to enjoy.
